To Learn Horse riding is a great goal. As a Physiotherapist and elite rider I understand the task involved to learn riding a horse.Horses are a personality of their own and this is a feature of riding many don’t respect.To learn riding at any age is a huge task, but to learn riding as an adult is even more difficult. Adult riders are more set in their ways; their body is most likely stiff and has some posture issues.

Many non riders look at a good rider and say it is so easy. We who have ridden know better. It is not easy. To learn riding from the beginning has its advantages and disadvantages. Fear and risk of injury is a disadvantage. Achieving fitness, strength and that wow look at me feeling is the outcome. This is certainly an advantage.To learn to ride a horse I believe a person needs to be instructed from the ground by a qualified instructor but also to read and watch the experts. Experts are knowledgeable people with experience in all of the above.
An instructor is a great way to start, but has limited knowledge and expertise in the how the body and the muscles work. Riding instructors are able to identify horse rider’s problems but are unable to offer advice on how to fix it.This is where an exercise program specific to the horse rider is the key to better learning and understanding the above. Pilates for horse riders is an excellent program.Humans are one sided, to ride efficiently we need to be symmetrical in our strength and flexibility. This will only be achieved if riders learn from the start how to train their riding muscles for riding.

There are many techniques associated with proper Horse Training and horse riding lessons. There is the conventional method that teaches how to learn riding and it has a few old school of thought approach to it.However, over time and experience there are several modern techniques and so these days there are several options open for all horse loving people who want to perfect the art of Horse Training and Horse riding.
There are quite a few techniques like the modern approach which basically deals with the attitude that a beginner should take. The first step is to start in small areas where the rider should develop an attitude of treating the horse like the leader. The rider is advised to let the horse move as it wants to and thereby gives full control of the entire walk to the horse which allows it to take the path it wants to take. In other words stick to the flow of the horse.
However, such basic lessons do graduate to a more matured level after a lot of practice where the horse is allowed to strut and trot as it pleases in slightly larger grounds and eventually to handling the horse with ease.
The magic word in these lessons is to stick to the flow of the horse and not to resist its movements. Rather if the tendency of following the rhythm of the horse’s movements is strictly allowed then such riders simply find the art of Horse Training and Horse Riding marvellous and something worth enjoying. However, if there is a tendency to go against the horses movements then chances are that the rider might get frightened each time a riding lesson is to be taken.
One important point to be learnt during riding lessons is to maintain the body balance by sitting right in the middle of the horses back. This means that if a horse bends slightly the rider too should bend slightly in the same direction this way there will be better alignment and the rider will not slip with the saddle.
Yet another important lesson to be learnt is to keep the body quite relaxed and stop being stiff.Remember, a stiff rider always makes the horse uncomfortable and the horse too becomes stiff in its movements thereby making movement pretty difficult. The back, ankles and the shoulders of the rider too should be in perfect harmony with the horse’s movements. The position of the rider’s ankles should be maintained so that it does not disturb he horses movements. Even the back of the rider should be straight so that it is n perfect sync with the horses back alignment. Is these basic details are kept in mind Horse training and Horse Riding Lessons will eventually become quite an experience for all who love Riding horses!

There are a few things that some people wish to do before they die. For some they want to climb Mount Everest, some want to see the ancient pyramids, and some just want to learn to ride a horse. Fortunately for me I was able to learn to ride a horse at a very young age and it’s something I have enjoyed my whole entire life. If you wish to learn to ride a horse I’ll give you just a couple of things that you should learn to do right at the start.
One of the first things that you should do when you learn to ride a horse is to learn how to lead one. That’s probably not what you had in mind but still, it’s kind of important. You shouldn’t be standing at the end of the lead rope trying to pull your horse along and you also shouldn’t be standing at their shoulder letting them lead you along. There’s no control in either of those methods. The best way to lead a horse is to stand with your shoulder pretty close to their throatlatch and about a foot over to the side of them. That way you have enough room between the two of you for comfort. With one hand right below the lead snap and the other holding the rest of the lead line, you will step forward with the horse hopefully following. If it doesn’t then you just simply push gently in the direction you want to go with the hand that has the snap. That will give you the most control over the horse.
Now that you know how to lead a horse your horseback riding lessons will flow smoother. When you learn to ride a horse you have to be in control and if you can lead one with control on the ground you have a better chance of being able to learn to ride a horse. Riding a horse works best when you know that you’re in control. If you think that you can’t ride a horse, you will never be able to learn proper horseback riding. They will know that you’re scared and take total advantage of you. That’s all there is to it. If you get scared just take some deep breaths and tell yourself that you’re the boss. Any time my mare and I have a “discussion” and she thinks that she’s the boss I calmly let her know that I’m the boss and that I’m always going to win. And I always do. You can’t get rough and be mean but you have to be firm. If you start beating and thumping on a horse, odds are it’s gonna scared and then you might get scared. Not a good thing.
You can learn to ride a horse by taking lessons but unless you are with a trainer that has a goal of teaching you something in particular, you might be able to get the same effects by watching a few videos or reading some horse training books. And a lot of those books you can purchase online for a reasonable cost. No sense making horse ownership any more expensive than it needs to be. If you learn to ride a horse, you are learning a skill that has been around for hundreds of years and obviously is still important to this day because people still do it. Mainly some will learn to ride a horse for pleasure, relaxation or just time by themselves.

Gam and I did this show on one of the hottest days this year. It was so hot, I think about four people exploded. Needless to say, it wasn’t our best show. Gam was getting spooked on one side of the ring, but we pushed through it anyway and finished strong. There were so many people in this show! Learn How To Fit Equestrian Saddles Well
You will have to select quite a few items of equipment as you get ready to go horse riding. Some of the items you may select without too much forethought, but others will take some deliberation. Equestrian saddles are quite complex pieces of equipment and must be chosen carefully, as an ill fitting saddle will make the whole experience uncomfortable not only for you, but also for the horse itself.
Horse saddles have been designed and perfected over many years and there are very good reasons for their rather unusual shape. You should buy and configure your saddle according to the type of riding that you have in mind, but above all you must make sure that you test the fitment of the saddle on your horse. If you are rather new to all this, please get an experienced rider or expert to help you set it all up.
The makeup of the saddle is built around a “tree,” another word for the frame upon which it is all staged. Normally this tree is made of wood, but it can also be made of fibreglass. Most of the time it is covered in leather. Look for some unusual features including the cantles and pommels, which set the seat in the correct position to give you control. Legs rest against what is known as the saddle flap and the whole item has to be properly attached to the horse before you start.

When you are sitting in an English saddle, you should have somebody to assist you so that you can see if it is correctly mounted. Have somebody sit in the saddle so that the appropriate weight is in place and then make sure that you can see a reasonable amount of space beneath the pommel and above the horse’s withers. You should be able to insert a couple of fingers into this space if it is correctly configured. Always make sure that the saddle does not impinge upon the shoulder movement of the horse.
When the saddle is fitted correctly, it should not be too snug along the horse’s back and you should allow for movement appropriately. If the saddle is too long it will be uncomfortable and could even bruise the horse, so once again make sure that your measurements are taken correctly before you even “road test” the saddle in the real world. Make sure that you have an agreement with the seller of the saddle, so that you can be sure that it works for you before finalising the purchase.
In recent years, Wintec saddles have risen to become very popular due to their innovative design and construction. The latest generation, called the Equileather range, features a new synthetic material which is very similar in feel and performance to leather, hard wearing with high performance. A further innovation now allows the gullet at the head of the saddle to be opened and the gullet to be changed to an appropriate size. There are six different choices and this innovation allows the saddle to be custom fitted to the horse’s wither.

Children’s Horse Riding – Where To Learn
If you are new to the world of horse riding, then it can be a little over whelming trying to make the best decision over where to start your child riding.
What is the most suitable riding school to go to? Will your child be safe? Will they be challenged and is the staff skilled? These are all likely thoughts to be running through your mind – and to be frank, like me you’re probably also very aware of the money and time involved. All are very valid points to be evaluated when determining where your child should learn to ride.
Depending on your location, accreditation by a national organization is usually the best way to guarantee a set of standards are being upheld – especially in North America and the UK – after all, riding is a complex sport that requires unique attention to facilities, animals and instruction. Do not be afraid to solicit opinions from friends and acquaintances as this can be the best way to select a quality facility.
Establish a set of criteria prior to committing to a riding school. Things to consider include do they cater especially for children? Do they offer lessons to students who do not own their own horse or pony? Are the teachers experienced with instructing absolute beginners? What sort of time commitment and involvement is expected? By this last point I mean will your child be expected to help tack-up and put their mount away or will they only have to arrive there for the ride?

Once you’ve made a few phone calls to potential riding schools, you should make a list of the ones that you wish to visit. Call ahead to ensure that a visit is acceptable and schedule the tour when a lesson comparable to one your child would be joining is planned. If it is a smaller barn, understand that you may need to wait until well after the lesson (and the horse or pony has been cared for) to approach the instructor with any questions.
Ultimately, you want to find a facility that caters to beginners, has a safe string of lesson horses and seems like a warm, welcoming learning environment. But relax, your initial choice of a riding school need not be a permanent one. If your child advances beyond their instructor’s teachings, a trainer leaves the barn or simply you find reason to be dissatisfied with your original selection, all are valid reasons to search out another location.
As the saying goes, location is everything. Hopefully, you are able to find a stable that meets your criteria close to home. If not, make sure to plan accordingly for drive time, lesson and related time at the barn, exhaustion levels and homework. Initially, your child is likely to be exhausted after riding. Plan accordingly for ample rest and relaxation time in addition to getting homework completed.
Lastly, given the information presented above, when considering where to learn to ride a horse, we have to recommend you avoid the offer from the neighbor down the street to teach your child to ride. While paying them a visit for a ride or two, with a few lessons under your child’s belt, would be a fun outing, leave the lessons to the tried and true professionals.
