Protect Your Horses Back from Pain
Article by Annette Willson
Protect Your Horses Back from Pain I treat 100s of people for back pain. I have trained 100s of riders to ride and protect their body especially their back from pain. I have treated many horses as well for back pain. It is partly for these reasons that I specialize in developing Horse Riding Equipment for riders. As Horse Riders we give our horses back pain. The causes of back pain in horses can be all or a combination of the following. We use poor fitting saddles that sit low on their back. A saddle can cause pressure points at thewither and any where along the gullet. The padded part of the saddle can become lop sided from a rider leaning to one side. The stirrups are often not equal length because again riders lean to one side; this creates pressure points in the horses back. We use dirty saddle blankets that are coarse against the skin and we often don’t use enough shock absorbing padding under the saddle. Rugs are another cause of back pain in a horse. The work we do training our horses is a major cause of back pain. Dressage riders spend hours doing circle work, Jump riders can over jump their horses, endurance riders ride for hours. All of this is fine if we respect fitness and flexibility. The long slow process of training muscle length, strength and function as well as obedience in a horse is often neglected because we want results fast. You can buy a clock but you can’t change time. You can’t get a horse fitter by over doing his training. You can’t build strength by doing twice as much. Back pain is the result. Resistance and bad behavior is the effect and misery is the outcome. Many riders then decide to do more and more and so the cycle continues. Some even go so far to tie their horses down to teach them a lesson.I’ve seen the above pattern over and over.I advise every rider to train out of the saddle one to train themselves to ride better and two to respect the effect of hard muscle training has on their own body. I like rider to feel pain and pressure and stiffness and understand they need to treat it and manage it not just do more. Riders who train out of the saddle have so much more respect for their horse. The use of massage after a training session has such a good bonding as well as therapeutic benefit to your horse. I use acupuncture myself. Feeding electrolytes and of course a balanced feed is essential. If you don’t know what to feed appropriate then go and learn.Horse riders must learn correct rug and saddle fitting. I will not ride without an air step saddle pad under the saddle or without checking the space between the saddle and the horses back. With an air step saddle pad I know it is clear. I take the stirrups off once a month, hang them on a hook and check they are equal. It is amazing how many aren’t and the rider swears they are.The second biggest management for a horses back pain is the way a rider rides. A good rider is balanced and strong in the saddle. They don’t bounce and pull and move around so the horse has to catch them all the time. To learn HOW TO ride like this follow my Applied Posture Riding program it will make you a better rider and save your horse from back pain.

What Horse Back Riding Is
Article by W Tsang
One of the many applications we use horses for is horse riding. Equestrianism, as it is also called, is a hobby that can be enjoyed and participated in people of all ages. Some who are privileged to have horses around them while growing up surely did not pass riding the wonderful animals that until they are old enough they still continue to ride the horses.
It is definitely an exciting as well as relaxing hobby to perform. If you have watched horse races or shows where professional riders seem to float in the air with their horses, one may thinks that riding a horse is just very easy to do. Probably yes, when you have become accustomed to it. However, if you have just started taking interest on horse riding, the task can be a little scary and challenging.
Of course like anything else that we do, particularly sports, the more practice in horse riding the better we get in performing it. It would all start on learning the correct and safe way to ride the horse. To do this properly, you may need the assistance of an experienced instructor in horse riding. You will need to work openly with your riding instructor. Tell him or her your personal and particular goals in riding the horse. Whatever goals you have, may it be for creative riding, hobby or for competitions the instructor will definitely help you achieve them.
The riding instructor can help you learn the different styles in riding horses. The two most familiar styles are the English and Western Riding style. The western style was invented by the cowboys and ranchers as they were working and riding their horses. To be a cowboy would not be necessary in this style, you just need to learn the proper way to do it. Pleasure horse riders prefer this style since less balance is required and can be done with just one hand. In this style, Western traditional horse saddles can be used which has a saddle horn and a deep seat. This saddle is with a thicker stirrup and weighs more than the English saddle.
The English riding style is what instructors first recommend their students to learn before any other styles in horseback riding. This style requires proper balancing. A flat seated English traditional saddle with no saddle horn is used. Compared to the Western saddle, this is lighter in weight and also with thinner stirrups.
Below are the useful tips when riding horses.
In learning to ride a horse, keep in mind to only ride a horse that is very much trained and is known to have a gentle temperament. Some horses will try to dare your authority and show stubbornness. When this happens, be sure to keep your consistency and firmness with the horse in place. You want a horse that is gentle so you also need to be gentle to the creature: no hitting, rein jerking or kicking. Falling off a horse is part of the learning process but don’t let your fall hinder you from getting back on the horse again. If in case you fall, roll away from the animal once you hit the ground to prevent yourself from being trampled upon.

The cemetery is very moving and my Thai hosts were very interested when I told them how much the River Kwai meant to the British, particularly (as in my case) if a relative had been a POW in the area. My Uncle Jack survived there for 3 years, but the ‘stay’ destroyed his health and he died eventually in 1950.www.steamtraintrips.org

Bring the Magic of Skip Away Roaring the Breeder’s Cup back
Article by Lee Lane-Edgar
Breeder’s Cup Classic has set foot on the season and is heading towards the world racing stage in leaps and bounds. The preparations would seem incomplete if the race enthusiasts fail to remember one of the greatest horses of all times, It. The noticeably different gray colt hailed from Florida where he was reared at the Indian Hill Farm, a property that belonged to Hilmer Schmidt. The America’s Champion Three year old was the fine progeny from Skip Trial and Ingot Way, born on April 4th, 1993. It was two when he was purchased by the Hall of Fame trainer Hubert “Sonny” Hine, who in combination with some outstanding horses had already earned remarkable victories under his belt; It was just his golden ticket to stardom. It was trained well by “Sonny”. The colt may have made a singular win out of the six starts he made as a two year old, he neatly placed two of them, one at the Cowdin Stakes and another at Remsen Stakes. It was only after he qualified for the three year olds that the colt’s career began shaping up. It participated and won the Blue Grass Stakes by six lengths ahead of the runner up Louis Quatorze. Following the opening event was Triple Crown where It faired pretty disappointingly though he managed to finish second in the second and third legs. The remaining season that year however witnessed a more aggressive Skip Away seizing the field with his breath-taking performances. Skip Away comeback was marked by his win in the Haskell Invitational and the Jockey Club Gold Cup, of which the latter became a milestone in It career defeating Cigar, a winner of 17 out of 18 starts. The following year saw another dip in it’s career until his jockey was replaced by Jerry Bailey, in whose company It developed a new front running style. What followed was an incredible ride to nine consecutive wins including a Breeder’s Cup Classic. As a four year old at the Breeder’s, It set a new record of flat 1:59.16. The year as a five year old for It was no less adventurous. Laced with seven consecutive wins once again, the colt failed to showcase his Breeder’s Cup magic once again. He had however won enough handicaps and stakes that the Eclipse Award for the Champion Handicap Horse and Horse of the Year undoubtedly became his. It was sent to stud after what seemed like an incredible career of 18 wins from a career starts count of 38, having placed in the money in 34. It closed his racing saga with a career earnings of ,616,360. The third best on all time North American money list, closely stalking Curlin and Cigar. “Skippy” as he was fondly known, died at the age of 17 due to a heart attack.
