Young horse afraid to approach near Round Pond. Videoed from astride my Arabian mare Willy, riding woods trails in the Belknap mountains, Gilford NH. Shown is Hubby on our 4 year old named Gilford! He hasn’t seen large bodies of water before and is unsure what to make of it, also the footing closer to the pond gets soft and feels mushy under his feet so it makes him nervous. Rather than whip or force a horse who is afraid, we give him plenty of time to check things out and settle himself down. Hubby is not trying to force him go forward, rather just encouraging his approach, keeping him from backing up or turning away so that he will face his instinctive fears and learn that nothing bad will happen to him. Filmed over the period of a few months in and around Edinburgh by Dave Sowerby, this video of Inspired Bicycles team rider Danny MacAskill (more info at www.dannymacaskill.com) features probably the best collection of street/street trials riding ever seen. There’s some huge riding, but also some of the most technically difficult and imaginative lines you will ever see. Without a doubt, this video pushes the envelope of what is perceived as possible on a trials bike. There was a hint of frost in the air when things got started for the advanced cross-country portion at the Southern Pines Horse Trials on the first day of spring in North Carolina. Perfect riding weather to me. And this is one beautiful place to do just that – what an excellent facility! I started at jump #1 and walked the course to the end – so the obstacles are in sequence – but I obviously stuck around here and there. The winners of each division were Bonnie Mosser with Merloch, Kelly Sult with Hollywood, and Buck Davidson with My Boy Bobby.
